History
Famous historians Matei Stryykovsky (1547 - c. 1593), Theodosius Safonovich (early XVII century - 1677), Adam Kirkor (01.21.1818 - 11.23.1886) mentioned that the legendary Nalshan was the founder of the ancient castle and the town itself Svir Zanalshansky) Prince Dovmont (in baptism - Timothy). It is believed that Prince Dovmont built his castle from a tree on the site of the pagan temple of Perun .
From the book of L.V. Alekseeva "Archeology and local history of Belarus in the XVI century. - 30 years of XX century.":
"M. Stryikovsky traveled a lot around Belarus, examined antiquities, talked with the population, so he can find many references to ancient realities. From the castle of Gedrus on Lake Kemont" the settlement is now hardly visible, since in ancient times, as now in Lithuania , it was a custom to make castles and cities of wood, why the traces of ancient monuments in those parts are so little visible, in contrast to what I have seen enough in Greece and Italy. "There are traces of the castle on Lake Svir now - for the castle, being wooden, in ancient times it fell into disrepair " [1] .
Matei Stryikovsky also mentioned that the Svirsky princes want to derive their pedigree from Prince Dovmont Romuntovich (Romanovich) [2] .
The castle was intended to protect the local population from attacks by Livonian knights and served as a refuge for traders. Not far from the village there is Poklonyha Mountain, on which travelers had to bow and wait for permission to spend the night under guard of castle walls [3] .
The importance of the Svir castle became secondary after the construction of the Grand Duke Gedymin powerful stone Krevsky castle at the turn of the XIII and XIV centuries.
According to the “Register of the Krevsky and Svirsky Khanate” from the census of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania on 1528 , “Prince Aleksandro Martinovich” (Svirsky) was to set up one horse [4] .
