Coleman is a city in the USA located in the central part of Texas , the administrative center of the eponymous district . According to the 2010 census, the number of inhabitants was 4,709; according to the US Census Bureau, in 2016, 4,431 people lived in the city [2] .

History
In 1876, landowner Klau donated 160 acres of land near the Creek Creek to the county center. The Great Western Trail ran through the city, allowing Colmen to thrive as a hub for those traveling in the direction of Dodge City , Kansas . The city, like the county, was named after Robert Houston 's associate Robert Coleman. The district courthouse at first also served as a store and venue for church services and ceremonies [3] .
In 1879, the first private school was founded, and three years later a public school was opened. In 1877, the first Coleman Telegram was launched / The newspaper did not last long; it was replaced by the Coleman Voice and Coleman Democrat . Santa Fe Railroad was 8 kilometers from the city, but in 1886 a line was built to Colmen. After 1900, the region's economy switched to cotton cultivation. During the Great Depression, many farmers were forced to leave the region. Later, the city opened the production of meat processing, wool production, production of bricks, sewing clothes, production of leather goods, office supplies and furniture [3] .

According to the 2010 census, 4709 people lived in the city, there were 1976 households and 1265 families. The racial makeup of the city: 86% are white , 3% are African Americans , 0.7% are Native Americans, 0.6% are Asians , 0% (1 person) are residents of Hawaii or Oceania, 7.8% are other races, 1.9% are two or more races. The number of Hispanic residents of any race was 18.9% [8] .
Out of 1976 households, children under 18 live in 28.9%. 45.4% of households were couples living together (14.8% with children under the age of 18), in 13.7% of households women lived without husbands, in 4.9% of households men lived without wives, 36% of households were not by families. Only one person lived in 31.8% of households, 15% were single elderly people (over 65). The average household size was 2.36. The average family size is 2.96 people [8] .
The population of the city by age range was as follows: 27% are residents under the age of 20, 20.7% are between the ages of 20 and 39, 32% are between 40 and 64, 20.1% are 65 and older. The average age is 42 years [8] .
According to a five-year survey from 2012 to 2016, the average household income in Colmen is $ 41,568 a year, and the average family income is $ 45,705. The per capita income for the city is $ 20,918. About 10.6% of families and 17% of the population are below the poverty line. Including 21.8% under the age of 18 years and 12.1% at the age of 65 and over [9] .
Local government
Management of the city is carried out by the mayor and the city council, consisting of four people, one of whom is appointed deputy mayor. The mayor, members of the city council and the chief of police are elected for a term of two years, members of the city council are elected by constituencies [10] .
Infrastructure and transport
The main highways passing through Colmen are:
- US 84 motorway runs from the northwest of Abilene to the southeast to Brownwood .
- US 283 motorway runs north from Byrd south to Brady .
- Texas State Motorway 153 starts at Colmen and runs northwest to the TX 70 intersection in Sweetwater .
- Texas Motorway 206 starts near Colmen at the intersection with US 67 and runs southeast to the city of Sisco.
The city has Colmen Municipal Airport. The airport has one runway 1373 meters long [11] . The closest commercial airport is Abilene Regional Airport. The airport is located about 85 kilometers north of Colmen.
Education
The city is served by the Colmen Independent School District.
Economics
According to the city’s financial report for the 2016 fiscal year, Colmen owned assets of $ 19.51 million, the city’s debt amounted to $ 9.58 million. City revenue in 2016 amounted to $ 10.76 million, and expenses - $ 10.82 million [12] .
Recreation and Entertainment
Every year, the city hosts an exhibition of cattle in January, hunting of rattlesnakes and an exhibition of antiques in March, as well as a rodeo in July [8] .
In Colmen, there is a city park with a replica of the Colorado military camp [8] . During the Civil War , the Texas Mounted Riffles rifle squad and the Texas Frontier Regiment border guard squad were stationed [13] .
