Face ID is a three-dimensional scanner of a person’s face, developed by Apple . Installed in smartphones iPhone X , XS / XS Max , XR , as well as in iPad Pro 2018 . Face ID technology was introduced by Apple on September 12, 2017, replacing the Touch ID fingerprint sensor. The new sensor (True Depth Camera) allows you to unlock the device, make purchases in the iTunes Store , App Store and iBooks Store , select cards for payment in Apple Pay .

To start using Face ID technology, you must create a password. Entering a password will be required to unlock the iPhone X , XS / XS Max , XR device in case of restarting the smartphone, or after a long period of non-use (48 hours), or if the password has not been entered for the last 6.5 days (156 hours) and was not Unlock in the last 4 hours [1] .
According to Apple , encrypted biometric information is stored on the device itself, inside the iPhone X processor - A11 Bionic , and cannot be sent anywhere. According to Apple , this is a mathematical image of a scanned face, but not the image itself.
Face ID technology is self-learning, it remembers changes in the face using neural networks in the smartphone processor. Face ID first appeared on the iPhone X. Face ID is used for purchases using the Apple Pay payment system, viewing passwords in the Settings application for iOS , purchases in the iTunes Store , App Store , iBooks Store, unlocking third-party applications, such as 1Password password manager and some banking applications.
