Biography
He was born on October 13, 1941 in the ulus of Zama of the Olkhonsky district of the Irkutsk region . He graduated from the Faculty of Geography, Irkutsk State University in 1969, after which he worked at scientific institutes of the SB RAS [2] .
In 1982 he defended his dissertation on the topic “Late Cenozoic of Lake Baikal coast” at the Institute of the Earth’s Crust SB RAS in Irkutsk , in 1993 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Evolution of the environment in the Late Cenozoic on the example of the Baikal Lake Basin” at the Institute of Geography of the SB RAS in Irkutsk [3] . He worked in universities of Ulan-Ude . He was one of the organizers of the Buryat branch of NSU . Since 2003, he headed the Department of Physical Geography of BSU , and then - the Department of Ecology and Life Safety of the VSGUTU .
He had many state awards, including the Przhevalsky Gold Medal , “ Honored Ecologist of the Russian Federation ”, medal of the Order “ For Merit to the Fatherland of the II Degree ”, “Honored Scientist of the Republic of Buryatia ”, “Laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Buryatia ”, Certificate of Honor of the People’s Khural of the Republic Buryatia and others [4] . He devoted the last years of his life to protecting Baikal from shallowing and the human factor.
Anatoly Borisovich worked in three dissertation councils for the defense of doctoral dissertations (in the specialties: geoecology, biological resources, soil science), was one of the academicians of the Russian Ecological Academy, the Petrovsky Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Mining Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Water Economics and others.
As a scientist, he established himself as a great specialist in the field of environmental protection and rational nature management, geomorphology and evolutionary geography, as well as engineering and Quaternary geology. His research interests included studies of monitoring the natural environment of the Baikal region, engineering and geological problems of the Baikal basin, a system of specially protected natural territories and objects of Eastern Siberia and Northern Mongolia, etc. Under the leadership of Imethenov, research was carried out on the Ecological Safety of the Baikal Region (1998-2002), Sustainable Development of the Baikal Region (2002-2007), and the Dynamics of Changes in Lake Shores. Baikal "(1971-2005)," Conceptual framework of recreational activities on Lake Baikal in the conditions of sustainable development "(2005-2011)," The natural environment and migration of the steppe peoples "(2000-2012), etc. In 1995-1996 On the instructions of the Government of the Republic of Buryatia, under the leadership of Imethenov, studies were carried out of environmental requirements for the operating mode of the Angarsk cascade of hydroelectric power stations and for assessing the economic damage from the negative impact of the Irkutsk hydroelectric power station . Also, Anatoly Imethenov was the first to compile a scientific concept on a system of specially protected natural territories (1992). [five]
He is the author of many books about Baikal , the compiler of the encyclopedia “Famous People of Buryatia”. He was a member of the Russian Geographical Society .
He has published over 350 scientific papers, including 32 monographs. Under his leadership, trained more than 30 candidates and doctors of sciences.
