During the off-season at colleges, he also played for the clubs of the fourth division,Development Premier League - Victoria Highlanders in 2013 [2] and the Chicago Fire youth team in 2014 [3] .

Club career

On January 15, 2015, on the MLS Superdraft , Polster was selected in the first round as the 7th overall number by the Chicago Fire Club [4] , a contract was signed on February 4 [5] [6] . His professional debut took place in the first round of the 2015 season on March 6 in a match against the current champion of the Los Angeles Galaxy League, lost 2-0 [7] . At the end of the 2015 season, Polster was nominated for the newcomer prize of the year in the MLS, but as a result of voting in the final three, was the last [8] [9] . Matt scored the first goal in his professional career on July 31, 2016 at the New York Red Bulls goal, but before that he hit his goal, the match ended in a 2-2 draw [10] . In the first two seasons at Chicago, Polster played mainly as a defensive midfielder, but with the arrival of Dax McCarthy , Juninho and Bastian Schweinsteiger in the team before the 2017 season , he had no place in his own line and had to retrain for the right back [11] [12 ] . Matt missed most of the 2018 season , from March to October, due to a knee injury [13] . At the end of the 2018 season, Polster's contract with Chicago Fire expired and the club began negotiations with the player on a new contract [14] .

On January 30, 2019, Polster signed a 2.5-year contract with the Scottish Premiere Rangers Club [15] [16] after successfully passing the show [17] . He made his debut for the Rangers on April 20 in a match against Hearts , in which he came on as a substitute in the 86th minute instead of Steven Davis [18] .

International Career

In March 2016, Polster was part of the US Olympic team , losing in the fight for a ticket to the Olympic Games football tournament in Rio de Janeiro in the playoff qualifying matches for Colombian Olympians [19] [20] [21] .

Polster received his first call to the US national team in January 2016, at a training camp before friendly matches with Iceland on January 31 and Canada on February 5 [22] , but he did not make the bid for the first match, while in the second he remained on the bench [23] . Polster was included in the US team's preliminary application for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup [24] , but was not selected for the final list. In early 2018, Polster was again invited to the traditional January training camp of the US national team on the eve of a friendly match with the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina [25] , and debuted in the US team in a meeting held January 28 [26] .
