Menemen [2] ( tur . Menemen ) - Ilche, a district of Izmir in Turkey . Located on the coast of the Izmir Bay opposite Izmir at the foot of Mount west , west of Mount Sipil (Manisa [2] ), 26 kilometers northwest of Izmir and 40 kilometers north of Adnan Menderes International Airport . Population of 163,565 residents according to the 2016 census. Since 2014, the mayor is Tahir Şahin from the Republican People’s Party .

History
In 1866, the station was opened on the Izmir – Turgutlu railway.
Refugees from Menyomen after the Asia Minor catastrophe and the Greco-Turkish population exchange founded in 1922 the city of Menemeni , a suburb of Thessaloniki .
During the occupation of Smyrna during a on June 16, 1919, Greek soldiers killed Mayor Menemen Kemal Bey and six police officers accompanying him. On June 17, Greek soldiers massacred in Menemen , and up to 200 people were killed.
September 9, 1922 the city was occupied by the Turkish army of Mustafa Kemal .
On December 23, 1930, during the participants in the pro- Sharia movement, Naqshbandi , killed the teacher, junior lieutenant [3] and the sentries Hassan and Shevky. On December 31, martial law was declared in silt Izmir, and on January 1, 1931 - in Balikesir and Manisa , 28 criminals were executed. In 1932, a memorial was erected to Kubilai, Hassan and Shevky.
