The performance of the debut role as a first-year student was highly appreciated by criticism:

Two young people are remembered in the film - I Miznikova (Oksana) and Yu. Tavrov (Vakula smith). They are both film debutants. ... Yu. Tavrov is a first-year student in the acting department of the Karpenko-Kary Kiev State Institute of Theater Arts. He is restrained, laconic in graphic means; he succeeds even in the largest plans, where the actor is helped by the development of facial expressions. Expressive eyes seem to radiate thoughts.
