Warning to humanity

World Scientists' Warning to Humanity - the 1992 manifesto of the and more than 1,700 scientists, including the one signed by most living Nobel laureates in science, warning that “people and nature are on the trajectory of the collision ” ^[1] , and that“ a great change is needed in our management of the Earth and life on it in order to avoid great human suffering ” ^[2] . The manifesto states that urgent changes are necessary to avoid the consequences of the current course: scientists expressed concern about the existing or potential damage to the planet associated with the depletion of the ozone layer , fresh water , marine life, as well as the presence of dead zones of the oceans, loss of forests , destruction of biodiversity , climate change and continued population growth .

On the 25th anniversary of the first warning, in 2017, the Second “Warning to Humanity” appeared in magazine, signed by 15,364 scientists from 184 countries - the largest number ever in a similar case ^[3] . It notes that "with the exception of stabilization of the ozone layer of the stratosphere, mankind has not been able to make sufficient progress in the general solution of the foreseen environmental problems, and it is alarming that most of them are becoming much worse." Particularly dangerous is called "the current trajectory of a potentially catastrophic climate change due to an increase in greenhouse gas emissions", and the sixth mass extinction is being unleashed.
