Gruppo otologico

Gruppo Otologico is an Italian otological center located in Piacenza . It was founded in 1983 . The founder and the permanent leader of the center is the famous otosurgeon, Professor Mario Sanna.

Structure

The center’s team treats patients with ear pathology ( external and middle otitis media , mastoiditis , microtia , deafness , middle ear cholesteatoma , otosclerosis , facial nerve damage) and the base of the skull ( vestibular schwannoma , meningioma , paraganglioma , temporal bone pyramid cholesteatoma ). Cochlear implants are also performed. The team, in addition to otosurgeons, also includes neurosurgeons , resuscitation anesthetists , electrophysiologists , audiologists , speech therapists , and hearing aid specialists [1] .

In addition to medical activities, the center is engaged in training specialists from around the world. Between 1992 and 2016, a total of about 150 surgical and dissection courses were conducted at Gruppo Otologico in Italian and English. The center has a specialized bone laboratory equipped with operating microscopes, burs, aspirators and micro-instruments. The lab is named after Mario Sanna's teacher, William House , an American otosurgeon at the Los Angeles Ear Institute , known for his work on implantable hearing aids.
