Biography
Gino Rabas became a law doctor. After he was sworn in in Valencia in 1378, he became the royal adviser [1] .
In 1410-1413, the land of the Aragon crown ( Kingdom of Aragon , the Kingdom of Valencia , and the Principality of Catalonia ) plunged into civil wars.
On December 23, 1411, the Parliament of Catalonia agreed with the deputies of Aragon who had gathered in Alcaniz to create a commission of twenty-four people, eight from each tenancy. On January 23, 1412, Pope Benedict XIII , who took refuge in Peñíscola , suggested that a small number of experts from each kingdom be elected with the authority to appoint a successor; this council was adopted, and on February 15 Alcaniz reached an agreement that nine judges, three from each kingdom, met in the city of Casp , which belonged to the knights-hospitallers. There, the judges had to study the rights of various candidates and choose a successor by a majority vote. This majority was to be secured by at least one vote from each kingdom. [3]
The Aragonese parliament delegated to the governor Ruiz de Liori and Judge Juan Jimenez Cerdán the opportunity to offer the judges [3] Similarly, the question of the nomination of candidates in the principality of Catalonia and the kingdom of Valencia [4] was resolved. Pope Benedict XIII tried to influence the selection of judges. He was alarmed by the proposal of the King of France to the Catalan Parliament to elect the rulers of Anjou as their ruler. This would combine the crowns of Aragon, Anjou and Provence. But the proposal disturbed the Pope (who was recognized only in Aragon and Castile), since he transferred Aragon to another “Roman Pope”, who was seated in Rome to Gregory XII (who was targeted by Louis III of Anjou ) or who was sitting in Pisa to John XXIII (who was supported by Jime Urhelsky ) [3] .
In the list of candidates for the role of judge, Gino Rabass was also indicated. Among others, Gino was approved by parliament and became one of nine judges. Gino Rabas was a famous supporter of Jaime II Urhelski, one of the two main candidates [1] .
However, when he arrived in Casp, it turned out that he was suddenly in a state of insanity [1] .
At this time, the position of supporters of Jaime was complicated. After Castilian troops invaded the kingdom of Valencia and on 27 February 1412 they won the many of Jaime’s supporters were killed (like , governor of Valencia) or captured [5] .
Based on this, as well as later statements by members of his family, the following was affirmed. Gino Rabass did not want to vote against Ferdinad of Castile for which there was a majority of the judges and who had military superiority. But as a supporter of Jaime Urhelsky, he could not even vote for Ferdinand. Therefore, he followed the advice of his son-in-law, Francesco de Perellos and Proxides, and feigned insanity.
As a result of this, he was replaced by [1] .
