History
The passage was laid in the 1920s along the western part of the territory of the Mikhailovsky Garden to organize a tramway . The tram routes were laid between the Vyborg side and the city center and followed Nevsky Prospect through Konyushennaya Square. After dismantling the tram tracks on Nevsky Prospect in 1956, the tramline was reduced to Konyushennaya Square. Tram routes number 51 and number 53 passed through the passage from the early 1970s to the early 1990s. [1] . Presumably, until the early 1990s, only tram rails were in transit, then the roadway was paved with diabase , which was soon replaced by asphalt. [2] In the late 1990s, motorway traffic was organized along the passage. In 1998, the circulating tram ring on Konyushennaya Square was liquidated, but the tram rails on the square, Novo-Konyushenny Bridge and in the driveway were preserved and were dismantled in July 2012. Title History
The passage remained nameless for a long time. Sometimes in the technical documentation the passage was called Mikhailovsky (in the Mikhailovsky Garden), but officially such a toponym did not exist. The toponymic commission of St. Petersburg considered an appeal about assigning the name of Bazhenov Lane to the driveway - in honor of the architect V.I. Bazhenov , the author of the project of the nearby Mikhailovsky Castle , but this option was not accepted.
As a result, the passage got its name in memory of Tsaritsynskaya Street (this name carried the passage on the western edge of the Field of Mars until 1940), as well as the first historical name of the Field of Mars - Tsaritsyn Meadow. Officially, the name was assigned to travel on January 31, 2017. [four]
