Ozsekmenler, Yurdusev

Born July 15, 1952 in Lapseki. Her mother was born as a teacher at school. She graduated from Istanbul University , then worked as a journalist in such publications as Özgür Gündem and Özgür Ülke. Then she worked in the Confederation of Public Trade Unions ^[2] .

Political career

In 2002, the Grand National Assembly ran for the Democratic Party of Peoples, but was not elected because its party was unable to get the minimum required number of votes to get into parliament ^[3] .

In 2004, she ran for mayor of Baglar from the Social Democratic People's Party. Having received 50,733 votes, she was elected. She held this position until 2009 ^[4] , when she was replaced by Yuksel Baran from the Party of Democratic Society .

In 2015, she was elected a member of the Great National Assembly from the Democratic Party of Peoples; she represented Van in Parliament. Since the DPN succeeded in holding 80 members of parliament, it received the right to appoint a deputy chairman of the Great National Assembly. First, they wanted to appoint Dilek Ocalan , who is the niece of the PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan , but this candidacy provoked sharp criticism, after which it was stated that Dilek did not want to occupy this position ^[5] . After her refusal, Yurdusev Ozsekmenler was appointed deputy chairman.

During the period when Ozsekmenler was Minister of Baglar, a site criticizing the PKK published a photograph taken at the training ground of the PKK. Yurdusev Ozsekmenler with weapons in his hands and dressed in the PKK uniform was allegedly captured on it. It was also stated that Ozsekmenler had the code name “Aisha”, was the “wife” of Abdullah Ocalan, and her successful political career was the result of support from him ^[6] . Yurdusev Ozsekmenler and her lawyer rejected these charges ^[7] .
