Chichele Professor [1] ( born Chichele Professorship ) is an honorary professorship in history , philosophy, and law at the University of Oxford . Named after Henry Chichela , an English religious figure of the 15th century, the Archbishop of Canterbury , who founded the Oxford College of All Souls .

History
In 1850, following the results of the work of the Oxford Commission to supervise the organization of the University, the College of All Souls closed the ten honorary posts that existed at that time in order to establish the first two Chichelia professorships: international law and diplomacy (1859) and modern history (1862).
Since 1870, Chichelia professors have also been awarded the status of the fello College of All Souls.
In 1909, the Chichele Professorship of Military History was established . In 1923, the leadership of the Faculty of History for the first time made a recommendation to rename the post to the Chichele Professorship of the History of War , which was satisfied only in 1946 [2] .
In 1931 a department appeared in economic history , and in 1944 - in social and political theory . In 1984, the Chichelia Chair in Contemporary History became a post in the history of the Middle Ages .
