The All-Union Association of Science and Technology Workers to Promote Socialist Construction in the USSR (VARNITSO) is an organization created in October 1927. Officially, the initiators were famous figures of Soviet science and technology: pathologist A. I. Abrikosov , hydro-engineer I. G. Alexandrov , biochemists A. N. Bach , B. I. Zbarsky , A. I. Oparin , A. V. Palladin , biologists N.F. Gamaleya , N.K. Koltsov , physicist-chemist N.S. Kurnakov , mining scientist A.A. Skochinsky , etc.
The purpose of the organization: to unite scientists and technicians for conscious participation in socialist construction, to overcome apoliticalism and neutralism among the intelligentsia, to assimilate Marxist-Leninist postulates . In February 1928, the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR approved the charter of VARNITSO.
In March 1928, the Ukrainian Society of Science and Technology Workers was organized for the promotion of socialist construction (UTORNITSO; in Ukrainian Ukrainian society of science and technology for science and social studies ). Organizers and first members of the society: D. Bagaliy, M. Barabashov, D. Grave, L. Gromashevsky, S. Grechikov, V. Makovsky, B. Nikolai, E. Opokov, M. Pakul, A. Palladin, K. Seminsky, A. Sokolovsky, M.I. Yavorsky. UTORNITSO was engaged in the promotion of scientific knowledge, the organization of technical assistance to enterprises and agriculture, and political and educational work. At elections in VUAN the recommendation of UTORNITSO was obligatory. The association had its own press organ - the journal “Front of Science and Technology”.
At the beginning of the 1930s, VARNITSO became the object of harassment and repression. In the second half of the 1930s, the names VARNITSO (and UTORNITSO) disappeared from newspaper and magazine pages - the organization finally ceased its activities.
