The men's 15 km cross-country skiing competition at the 2018 Winter Olympics was held on February 16th . The competition venue was the Alpenzia skiing and biathlon center. The start of the race was given at 15:00 local time ( UTC + 9 ). The race was attended by 119 riders from 61 countries.
At the previous two Olympic Games ( 2010 and 2014 ), Swiss skier Dario Cologna became the champion in the 15 km race, which this time won a landslide victory.
This gold brought Colony the status of a four-time Olympic champion and the title of first skier in history, who managed to win the same personal discipline during three Olympic Games in a row. After this victory, Dario became one of the two most titled Swiss athletes among the speakers at the Winter Olympics. Prior to this, a record of 4 gold medals belonged solely to ski jumper Simon Amman . Athletes from Switzerland at the Olympics had more awards only with gymnast Georges Mies performing in the first half of the 20th century (4 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze).
Second place went to the Norwegian Simen Krueger , who won gold a few days earlier in a skiathlon . Denis Spitsov , a young skier from Russia, went up to the third step of the podium, who became the fourth in the same skiathlon . Another Norwegian Martin Sundby fought for the medal until the last meters of the distance, but for the third time in his career he took 4th place at the Olympic Games.
