The film was conceived and directed by director Ekaterina Krasner according to the original script co-authored with Lesya Parker, Evgenia Babin and Sergey Shapovalov. The story tells about the life of the chief of the Guardians of the Supreme Office of Magic and Witchcraft, who lost the ability to conjure. [2] Part of the funds for making the film was raised through crowdfunding . [3]
The first screening of the film took place on March 26, 2018 [4] . July 19, he was shown at the festival " San Diego Comic-Con International " [5] [6] [7] . The online premiere took place on November 19, 2018. [8] [9]

Content
Story
In modern Russia, there is another world - the world of magic and sorcery.
Wizards are forced to hide from the surrounding non-magical community, to which they are dismissive, and some are completely hostile. The head of the Guardians of the Supreme Department of Magic and Witchcraft Bakhrushin (played by Vasily Zotov ), having lost his ability to magic, must not only not open up, but also prevent the impending war of wizards and nonmages.

The film was attended by students and graduates of VGIK , the Moscow School of Cinema and the School of Computer Graphics Scream School.
The film became the thesis of the graduate of the VGIK Film and Television Directing Workshop (workshop of Janik Fayziev ) Yekaterina Krasner and the VGIK film camera operator graduate ( Yuri Nevsky workshop) Sergey Fedorov. [13]
Reviews
The film received mostly positive reviews in the press [14] . Regnum reports that ordinary user reviews on YouTube were both positive and negative [15] .
Kanobu columnist Denis Varkov noted that the film “is unlikely to surprise you with the plot, nor is it likely that you will be disappointed with this story. Its simplicity is the result of the format in which the team “Magic Above All” had to work. ” [16] .
Alyona Sokolova from Regnum wrote: “You can’t say that the film infringes copyrights: none of the characters cast spells, no recognizable names are called, the story is completely made up (although it draws a parallel with the events in Fantastic Beasts-2 : the creators managed to show that the world is developing in the same way, and people (magicians) are the same in the United States, in France, and in Russia). Nevertheless, the scale is amazing: with a microscopic budget and fiery enthusiasm, the team created wonderful scenery and came up with a good story ” [17] .
Sergei Prudnikov also praised the film in the 25th Shot edition: “Despite inexperience, the young cinematographers of VGIK created a story that is imbued with and that looks no worse than many domestic films sponsored by the Cinema Foundation. And this already makes us look hopefully into the future of Russian cinema ” [18] .
Authors Daria Budanova and Daria Belenkova positively commented on the film in the publication World of Fantasy [19] . At the end of the year, the publication named the short films “Magic Above All” and “ Your Documents ” the best Russian science fiction films of 2018 [20] .
