Biography
Special Operations Unit
Spasoevich was well acquainted with the personnel of the Special Operations Division of Yugoslavia and served in it with the rank of colonel [3] . From November 9 to November 17, 2001, a riot of Yugoslav special forces took place, one of the participants of which was Dusan Spasoevich. Spasojevic, like the instigators of the riot, was outraged by the desire of the Yugoslav authorities to issue the ICTY to the soldiers who participated in the Yugoslav wars (among the soldiers there were also members of the Zemun clan). According to the testimonies of Zoran Vukoevich , Spasoevich had a strong influence on journalists covering the events of the riot [4] .
Zemun clan
In his youth, Spassoevich was a member of the Pets gang, which was defeated by the police in 1992 [5] . After its collapse, he founded the Zemun criminal group (Zemun clan of the Serbian mafia ) and from 2000 to 2003 was its de facto leader. In the Zemun clan, Spassoevich had several persons who enjoyed his personal location: one of them was Sretko Kalinich , involved in the killing of more than 20 people [6] [7] . As an incentive for his orders, his henchmen received material gifts in the form of apartments in Belgrade [8] . According to the testimony of businessman Lyubisha Bukha, Dushan Shiptar Spasoevich, Milorad Legia Ulemek and Slobodan Pazhich were involved in more than 30 murders, including the abduction of Miroslav Mishkovich and several others [9] . Among the crimes, the commission of which is charged with Spasoevich, are the following:
- Ratomir Fishkal Zhivkovich, godfather of businessman Lyubisha Bukhi, accused Dusan Spasojevic and Milorad Ulemek of killing his sons Dragan and Zoran, who allegedly were selling drugs. Both were shot from an “Cherokee” car by an unknown man who, according to forensic experts, was a professional left-handed man and fired from a Heckler & Koch submachine gun [10] .
- The Montenegrin crime boss Veselin Bozhovich in August 2002 was assassinated by bandits of the Rakovatsky criminal gang: unknown people driving a BMW found a convoy of three cars, among which was a black Bozovic jeep, and fired at the car from a Kalashnikov assault rifle. As a result of the shootout, two casual passers-by were injured, as well as the wife and child of Bozovic; the driver himself was injured in the shoulder and lung. However, if the wife, child and two civilians survived, the hospitalized Bozovic later died after the introduction of a lethal injection in the hospital [8] . In 2004, one of the gangsters of the Zemun criminal gang stated that Dusan Spasojevic was involved in the death, who demanded that one of the resuscitation doctors (according to some reports, from Zlatibor Lonchar , the future Minister of Health of Serbia), kill Bozovic, which he did. However, the police, based solely on the evidence of the mafiosi, could not specifically bring charges against anyone [8] .
The murder of Dzhindzhich and the death of Spassoevich
The Serbian prosecutor’s office calls Dusan Spasojevic one of the accomplices in the murder of Zoran Djindjic: the performer was the commander of the Special Operations Unit, Zvezdan Jovanovic . Spasoevich, according to the testimony of the assassination participant Milos Simovic, monitored the protection of Dzhindzhich [11] ; on the day of the assassination, March 12, 2003, he was in an ambush in one of the cars and monitored the movements of Djindjic [12] .
Spasojevic was put on the wanted list by the Serbian police. On March 27, 2003, he and Mile Lukovic were surrounded in a house in a suburb of Belgrade during the police police operation Saber [13] [14] . The special forces went on the assault, and Lukovich and Spassoevich opened fire. As a result of the shootout, Spasoevich and Lukovich were killed by snipers [15] .
Investigation of crimes related to the activities of Spassoevich, continued after his death. In 2006, information was published that Spasojevic informed the head of the Serbian Radical Party, Vojislav Seselj, about the killings of high-ranking officials in Serbia [16] . On February 9, 2012, the leader of the Zemun criminal gang, Luka Boyovich , was arrested, who was unexpectedly charged with the murder of Spasoevich [17] .
