Diamantidis, Giannis

Giannis Diamantidis was born in 1948 in Piraeus . He studied political science and economics at the University of Athens . In his student years he took an active part in the student struggle against the dictatorship of the "black colonels" , since 1965 he was a member of the Greek Democratic Youth Organization ( Ελληνική Δημοκρατική Νεολαία, ΕΔΗΝ ). Including participated in the events known as the Uprising at the Athens Polytechnic University .

Since 1978, he was a member of the local PASOK committee, and in 1982 he became one of the founders of the Union of Scientists of Coridalos ( Ένωσης Επιστημόνων Κορυδαλλού ). In 1985-1989, Yannis Diamantidis served as Vice President of the Board of Directors at Οlympic Catering. Subsequently, he became the president of the Corridalos branch of the Movement for National Independence, World Peace and Disarmament ( ΚΕΑΔΕΑ, Κίνηση για την Εθνική Ανεξαρτησία, τη Διεθνή Ειρήνη και τον Αφοπι In 1986 he became a member of the Pegasus Sports Union ( «γασος ).

In November 1989, he was first elected to the Greek Parliament from the PASOK party . In November 1996, he was elected secretary of the Parliamentary Committee on Labor Affairs, as well as on matters relating to the Ministry of the Navy. In October 2002, he was elected chairman of the parliamentary commission on culture (re-elected in October 2003) and permanent secretary of a special parliamentary committee responsible for reporting on the general balance of the state.

After coming to power, PASOK was appointed September 7, 2010, was appointed Minister of the Merchant Navy and Island Policy of Greece .

Giannis Diamantidis is married and has two sons.
