Drummy, Dermot

Dermot Drummy (January 16, 1961 - November 27, 2017) is an English coach and soccer player. His last job was Crawley Town , which he led in the 2016/17 season. Before that, he worked for five years with the reservists and the Chelsea Academy .

Club career

Drummy, who played as a midfielder, began his career with Arsenal's youth team. He never played for the first team at Arsenal, but spent five matches on loan for Blackpool [1] . Later, for ten years he played for Hendon , which included 348 matches in all competitions [2] . In 1988, Drummy scored in the finals of the Middlesex Senior Charity Cup [3] . Later, he played for St. Albans City [4] , Weldstone , Anfield and Weir [5] .

Coaching career

Drummy was a Weir playing coach in the 1996/97 season [6] . He left the club because he wanted to become a coach of the Arsenal youth squad [7] . In January 2009, he became a trainer at Chelsea Academy [8] . In the second year of his work, Drummy won the England Youth Cup 2009/10 with the team, defeating the Aston Villa Academy in the final with a total score of 3: 2 - the first Chelsea victory in the youth cup in 49 years [9] . Due to success with the youth team in July 2011, Drummy was appointed reserve coach, replacing Steve Holland , who continued to work with the first team [10] .

In the 2012/13 season, the old league of reserve teams was replaced by the new youth league format, Drummy took up the work with the new roster, and also led the team until the age of 19, which participated in the European tournament - NextGen Series . On the way to the finals, the team beat Barcelona, ​​Ajax, Juventus and Arsenal, but lost to Aston Villa in the decisive match in Italy [11] . In the 2013/14 season, Drammy won the Youth Premier League [11] . In June 2014, Drummy took up a new position as the international head coach of the academy [12] .

In June 2015, Drummy was offered a job as a coach in the Brazilian Bangu team [13] .

In April 2016, he became the head coach of Crawley Town [14] , led the club until May 2017 [15] .

Death

Drummy passed away at the age of 56 on November 27, 2017 [16] , his body was found in a landing near A414. Later it became known that the coach committed suicide [17] .
