Windows Photo Viewer ( English Windows Photo Viewer , formerly Windows Picture and Fax Viewer) [1] is a Windows component image viewer that is part of the Windows NT operating system. It was first included in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 under its former name. He was temporarily replaced by “viewing Windows photo galleries” ( English Windows Photo Gallery ) as part of Windows Vista [2] , but was returned with the release of Windows 7 . [3] The program is outdated and replaced with the Photos' UWP application with the release of Windows 10; however, it can be returned by setting the registry . [four]

Windows Photo Viewer can display individual snapshots, display all snapshots in a folder as a slideshow, rotate them in 90-degree increments, print them directly or through the online printing service, send them by email or burn them to disk. [3] [5] [6] The program supports BMP , JPEG , JPEG XR (formerly HD Photo), PNG , ICO, GIF and TIFF images . [7]
Development
Compared to Windows Image and Fax Viewer, changes were made to the Windows Photo Viewer graphical user interface .
While Windows Image and Fax Viewer uses GDI + , "Windows Photo Viewer" uses the Windows Imaging (WIC) component [8] and the Windows display driver model . [9]
Although the Windows Photo Viewer supports the GIF format, it, unlike the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, only displays the first frame of the animation. [ten]
Windows Image and Fax Viewer can also be used to view multi-page TIFF files (except those using JPEG compression) [11] , as well as “comment” on TIFF files. [12] [13] The Windows Photo Viewer has added support for the JPEG XR file format [7] and ICC profiles. [14] [15]
