History
On July 11, 2016, the AHL and Montreal Canadiens announced the relocation of a subsidiary club from St. John to the Montreal suburb of Laval starting in the 2017-18 season. The competition for choosing a name for the new team lasted from July 11 to August 31, and the Patriots, Rapids and Rocket reached the final. On September 8, it was announced that the majority of the fans' votes (51%) gained the name “Rocket”, which was invented in honor of the legendary Canadiens hockey player Maurice “Rocket” Richard . The Laval team became the second team from Greater Montreal , called the “Rocket”, after the team of the Quebec Major Hockey League “ Montreal Rocket ”, which existed from 1999 to 2003. In June 2017, Larry Carrier was appointed the new general manager of the team, and Sylvain Lefebvre remained the head coach, who began to head it back in 2012, when the team was called Hamilton Bulldogs .
Team Logo and Form
On January 31, 2017, Laval Rocket introduced to fans a new logo and uniform design for the hockey club. Blue, white and red were chosen according to the colors of the "senior" club, "Montreal Canadiens." As a sign of respect to Maurice Richard, a patch with his game “nine” and a stylized flame on each sleeve appeared on the uniform. Flames are also depicted at the bottom of the game number and on the backs of the gaiters. On the sleeves are also stripes in the form of shields with the inscription "Rocket" inside. The name of Laval, the city in which the team plays, is printed on the shoulders, as well as in the neck.
The main logo is a large blue Latin letter "R" with white lines and backlight. Although the colors of other logos alternate, depending on whether the “guest” is a form or a home, the main logo remains blue on both red and white.
