Free and open source software

FLOSS , or FOSS - Free / Libre and Open-Source Software (Free software with open source ) is a category of software that includes both free and open source software . In English, the word "Free" means both "free" and "free", which is not the same thing; therefore, the term “FOSS” (Free and Open-Source Software) included the word “Libre” ( fr . “free”) to emphasize that we are talking about “Free software” , and not “ Freeware "(Free software).

In “Free / Libre and Open-Source Software”, the “and” alliance acts as a conjunction , that is, software falls into the category of “FLOSS” if and only if it is both “Free software” and “Open-Source Software " .

It is believed that for the first time to use the term "FLOSS" instead of the term "FOSS" suggested Rishab Aiyer Ghosh (English) in 2001. However, the term “FOSS”, without Libre , is still widely used in the community of developers and users of free and open source software. The government structures of the European Union and the USA also prefer this term. .
