Biography
Born in the family of a priest of the Pskov diocese . He entered the St. Petersburg Theological Academy in 1851, whose course he graduated in 1855 with a master’s degree in theology <and, upon completion, he was determined by the priest to the Alexander Nevsky Church at the house for the maintenance of faulty debtors.
In 1856, D. A. Tikhomirov was appointed the law teacher at the 2nd St. Petersburg Gymnasium , in which he served until February 1, 1886 [1] .
In 1859, he was transferred to the church at the Imperial Medical-Surgical Academy , where he was also entrusted with teaching theology to students of the academy.
In 1882 he was sent to the Forestry Institute (now St. Petersburg State Forestry University ) as a professor of theology and rector of the institute church, where he was replaced by I. Polkanov. His lectures were very popular among students and attracted many students.
He also taught theology at the Higher Women's Courses and at the Gymnasium of Prince. Obolenskaya .
Dmitry Alekseevich Tikhomirov was also known as one of the prominent preachers of his time, especially his scientific and religious conversations in the Salt Town , which Tikhomirov was one of the first to arrange for the educated classes of the population. There were six such conversations in total; they were printed in the “ Church Gazette ” (1881, No. 132 and No. 132). In them, Tikhomirov showed rather significant natural-scientific knowledge.
In periodicals were printed: “The word on the day of the centennial of Catherine the Great - August 12, 1875” (“ Orthodox Review ”, Vol . 3, No. 9), “Apologetic conversations about religion” (St. Petersburg: typ. V.S . Balasheva, 1884. - 153 p.), "Out-of-service conversations about the worship of the Orthodox Church" (St. Petersburg, 1884). His sermons were published in The Spiritual Conversation and in The Spirit of the Christian , of which he was co-editor.
After his death, the Course of Basic Theology was published (2nd ed. - St. Petersburg, 1897).
He died on May 4 ( 16 ), 1887 in St. Petersburg .
