A survey on the Golden Ball ( French Ballon d'or ) in 1993 was conducted for the thirty-eighth time. The voting results were published in the issue 2490 France Football on December 28, 1993. The jury consisted of 30 sports journalists from the following football associations included in UEFA : Austria , Albania , England , Belgium , Bulgaria , Hungary , Germany , Greece , Denmark , Ireland , Iceland , Spain , Italy , Cyprus , Luxembourg , Malta , Norway , The Netherlands , Poland , Portugal , Russia , Romania , Turkey , Finland , France , Czechoslovakia , Switzerland , Sweden , Scotland and Yugoslavia .
The winner of the vote was the Italian Roberto Baggio , who scored a record 142 points. He was ahead of Dennis Bergkamp and Eric Canton in a poll.
Voting System
Each of the jury members selected five players, who in his opinion were the best players in Europe. The first place got 5 points, the second - four, the third - three, the fourth - two, and the fifth - one point. Thus, there were 450 points in the draw; the maximum player could get 150 points.
