Service History

The galliot “Tonein” was laid at the Galley shipyard in St. Petersburg in 1739 and, after launching in 1740, became part of the Baltic Fleet of Russia. Information about the ship foreman who built the ship was not preserved [1] [2] .

In 1740, he made measurements and surveys of the Moonsund Strait [1] [3] .

He took part in the Russian-Swedish war of 1741-1743 . In May and June 1742, milestones were established in the Gulf of Finland in the galliot, but due to the discovery of the Swedish fleet, the ship was forced to stop work and return to Kronstadt on June 12 (23) . In 1743, as part of a squadron, he cruised to the Gulf of Finland [1] .

In 1745 it was used to set milestones and monitor the fairways , and in the summer of that year, sailed to Lübeck [1] .

After the removal of milestones in October 1745, he returned to Kronstadt and on October 30 ( November 10 ) was ice-covered, and the next day he sat aground on Tolbukhina. On November 1 (12), sailors were sent to help the vessel from Kronstadt, who managed to take the galliot aground, and he began to turn around [comm. 1] . During the pilotage of the vessel, a leak was discovered, since one of the sides was broken by ice, but the hole was closed up and by December 13 (24) the Tonein was brought to Kronstadt. In total, 520 people took part in the operation to rescue and escort the galliot to Kronstadt [1] .

In 1746, it was again used to set milestones and monitor the fairways. In 1747, he sailed to Danzig . From 1748 to 1750 he established milestones and cormorants from Kronstadt to the Kalbodegrund can [1] .

He took part in the Seven Years' War of 1756-1763 . In the campaign of 1756, 1757 to 1758, it was used to set milestones and cormorants near Revel , and in August 1758 it was also used to deliver orders to the squadron of Vice Admiral A.I. Polyansky , who at that time was cruising off the island of Gotland . In April and May 1759, he set milestones between Revel and Cape Daguerort, and in October and November was used to transport troops from Revel to Danzig. From April to July 1760 it was also used to set milestones between Revel and Cape Daguerort, and in August - to deliver ammunition to the squadron located at Kohlberg . In 1761 he performed measurements with Revel [1] .

In 1765 and 1766, milestones were re-established on the galliot between Revel and Cape Daguerort [1] .

On November 5 ( 16 ), 1768 , the Tonein left Revel with a load of firewood for the Odenholm Lighthouse. He approached the island of Odenholm and anchored. However, during the parking lot he was caught in a storm, washed ashore and broken by the waves. The crew managed to escape [1] [2] .
