Sports Biography

Müller began rowing in 1983. The first championship in the Swiss national team for Xeno was the 1990 Junior World Championship, where he became a bronze medalist. Since 1991, Muller began performing at an adult level. At his first world championship, the Swiss rower was unable to reach the main finals, taking the final 11th place. A year later, Muller made his debut at the Summer Olympics . The young rower could not compete with a more experienced rival and was eliminated in the semifinals, then taking the last place in the final B. At the same time, Muller moved to the USA, where he began to study at Brown University , while continuing to actively engage in rowing. In 1993, Xeno tried himself in doubles, but a year later he returned to singles and immediately became the silver medalist of the World Cup .

At the 1996 Summer Olympics, Muller did not leave a single chance to his rivals in any of the races of the lone competition . At each stage of the competition, the Swiss rower showed the absolutely best time among all the participants. In the final race, Muller went the distance for 6: 44.85, which was the new best Olympic time. This result lasted 16 years, until it was beaten in 2012 by the Belgian Tim Mayens , showing a result of 6: 42.52. Müller's gold was also the first for rowing in Switzerland since 1928 [2] . In 1998 and 1999, Muller twice in a row became the silver medalist of world championships, second only to New Zealander Rob Waddell .

Muller was unable to overtake Waddell in 2000 at the Sydney Summer Olympics . In the singles competition, Xeno confidently made his way to the finals, but there he became only the second, losing to the New Zealand rower 1.65 s. After the Games, Muller once more made it to the finals of the World Cup , where he took 5th place. In 2002, Muller completed his sports career. In early 2004, Mueller received American citizenship. Muller tried to qualify for the US team to participate in the Olympics, but decided to refuse a trip to Athens [3] .
