History

The titular church of Sant Apollinare is the titular church founded by Pope Leo X on July 6, 1517, when the number of cardinals increased significantly on the new consistory of July 1, 1517. The titular church was abolished by Pope Sixtus V on April 13, 1587, with the Apostolic Constitution Religiosa .

On May 26, 1929, Pope Pius XI , with the Apostolic Constitution β€œ Recenti conventione, ” reinstated the deaconess of Sant Apollinare alle Terme-Neronian-Alessandrina when, according to article 15 of the concordat between the Holy See and Italy , the titular deaconess of Santa Maria was abolished ad martires . The diaconia belongs to the small basilica of Sant'Apollinare-alla Terme-Neroniane-Alessandrina , located in the Rome Ponte area , between Piazza Navona and Palazzo Altemps .
