The main regatta is the race across the Atlantic Ocean , which gave the name to the class (trans atlantic) in 1977. The class is open, i.e. yachts that meet the basic parameters of the class may participate in the competition.

Divisions
Yachts are divided into two divisions: Proto and Serial Division [1] .
Proto is a division in which almost any materials are allowed in the manufacture of the boat, which makes boats expensive and affordable only for professional riders with good sponsors. Of course, these boats are as fast as possible : have less weight, greater draft, a larger sail area, a smaller freeboard, a carbon fiber mast - all this has a positive effect on speed.
Serial division - in this division everything is, to a reasonable extent, aimed at reducing the cost of the boat and increasing its reliability. Expensive materials are prohibited: carbon fiber , epoxy resins. To increase the convenience of staying on board the rules set a larger cabin. Tanks and rocking keels are prohibited. Draft reduced to 1.6 meters. Division boats, of course , a little slower proto , they spend about 40 minutes more at a distance of 300 miles, but affordability and the ability to combine racing with cruise sailing are attracting more and more yachtsmen around the world to such boats.
Transatlantic Race
Since 1977 , every odd year has been held. Every year, more and more participants go to the start. The first race was from Penzance ( Great Britain ) to Antigua with an intermediate stop on Tenerife ( Canary Islands ). Now the route has been changed: Charente-Maritime ( France ) / Bahia ( Brazil ).
Two Russian yachtsmen plan to participate in the race of 2019: Irina Gracheva and Fedor Druzhinin [2] .
