Biography
He emigrated to the United States in 1895. He worked as a clerk in an Italian bank in New York . In 1910 he began to try himself in the field of music management. In 1911 , Gallo was approached by representatives of a small Italian opera troupe stuck during a tour in Latin America because of financial inconsistencies. Gallo took over the management of this troupe, reorganized it, introduced into its practice the involvement of local performers and by 1913 partially moved to New York, where he opened the history of the American opera troupe San Carmen in December 1913. Carlo . Gallo led this group throughout its existence, until 1955 , and although in 1927 the troupe had its own building in New York, its main mission in the history of American music was touring small cities, whose inhabitants were thus given the only opportunity to see and hear the opera performance. The repertoire of the troupe of San Carlo consisted of classical, mostly Italian works; Gallo's attempt to create in the mid-1920s. the second troupe specializing in American operas failed. A significant page in the history of the American and world opera theater was Gallo's filming in 1931 of the opera “ Pagliacci ”, which was considered to be the first opera film.
In addition to the opera San Carlo, Gallo at various times worked with the ballet troupe of Anna Pavlova , the Chicago Opera and other groups.
In 1967 , Gallo published the Lucky Rooster autobiography.
