Miripristins

Miripristins [1] ( lat. Myripristinae ) is a subfamily of ray- fin fish from the Holocentriformes family of holocenter orders. Distributed in tropical and subtropical waters of all oceans.

Characteristics

There is no sharp spike at the corner of the overlap (except Corniger spinosus ). The longest spine of the anal fin is shorter than the longest spiny ray of the dorsal fin . In the soft part of the anal fin 10-16 rays. The swim bladder is located in the anterior third of the body. Its front end is bifurcated and forms two separate chambers, each of which is connected to the auditory capsule in the skull.

In the subfamily, there are five genera with 43 species [2] [3] :

  • Genus Corniger Agassiz , 1831 - Cornigers (monotypic)
    • Corniger spinosus agassiz , 1831 - spiny corniger
  • Genus Myripristis Cuvier , 1829 - Candyli , or Miriprist (28 species)
  • Genus Ostichthys Cuvier, 1829 - rough candies (11 species)
  • Genus Plectrypops Gill , 1862 - rough candies (two species)
  • Pristilepis genus JE Randall, Shimizu & Yamakawa, 1982 - barbed fish soldiers (monotypic)
    • Pristilepis oligolepis ( Whitley ), 1941 - barbed soldier fish
