Kenin-Lopsan, Mongush Borakhovich

Kenin-Lopsan Mongush Borakhovich was born on April 10, 1925 in the metro station Chash-Tal. Hondergey Dzun-Khemchik district of the Tuva People's Republic, the sixth child in a family of storytellers. He is one of the first graduates of the Kyzyl National School No. 2. He graduated from the Oriental Department of Leningrad State University (1952), at the Leningrad Institute of Ethnography of the USSR Academy of Sciences defended his thesis on the topic “Themes and Poetics of Tuvan Shamanism” (1982), his doctoral dissertation on the topic “ Problems of the ethnographic study of Tuvinian shamanism based on the materials of shamanic folklore ”in St. Petersburg , in the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography. Peter the Great of the Russian Academy of Sciences ^[2] .

He worked as a teacher of the Tuvinian language and literature in the Kyzyl Pedagogical School, as an editor in the Tuva book publishing house, since 1964 - leading researcher of the Republican Museum of Local Lore. "Aldan-Maadyr ".

MB Kenin-Lopsan began writing in childhood. The first publication took place in a local newspaper when he was only thirteen years old. In 1947 his poem “The joy of Tuva” was printed in one of the local youth newspapers ^[3] . His first poem “Hatred of Hitler” was published in the poem collection “Battle Cry” in 1943. The first book, a collection of poems “The Great Road” was published in 1956, the first novel “Stremnina of the Great River” in 1965.

His monograph “The ritual practice and folklore of Tuvan shamanism. The end of the XIX - the beginning of the XX centuries. ”, Published in Novosibirsk at the Institute of History, Philology and Philosophy of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, acquired great ethnographic significance ^[3] .

His work is widely known outside of Tuva. His periodicals regularly publish his articles and reviews. He is the author of numerous literary-critical works. He made a huge contribution to the development of shamanism in Tuva. Under his leadership, the Scientific Center for the Study of Shamanism was established (1993). He is the organizer of regularly held international conferences on shamanism ^[2] . M. B. Kenin-Lopsan wrote about fifty books: collections of poems, ballads, short stories, novels. Translated from Russian into Tuvinian famous poetic works of Russian and foreign writers, poets: D. Byron , G. Heine , A. Pushkin , M. Lermontov , N. Nekrasova , T. Shevchenko , N. Hikmeta , L. Ukrainki, V. Mayakovsky , A. Tvardovsky , S. Shchipachev , A. Prokopyev, N. Tikhonov, D. Furmanov and others. He is a classic of Tuvan literature, a true legend. Since 1995, M. B. Kenin-Lopsan has entered the international scientific arena. He visited by invitation with lectures and reports in many European countries - in Austria and Switzerland (1996), USA (1998), Germany (2000), Italy (2001). Participated in international exhibitions and opening days with the visiting exposition “The Shamans of the Center of Asia. Mythological heritage of the Tuvinian people ” ^[3] .

A member of the Writers' Union of the USSR since 1968. In March 2000, M. B. Kenin-Lopsan is recognized as a “Man of the 20th Century” at the contest and becomes the hero of the book “The Best People of the 20th Century of the Republic of Tyva” ^[3] .
