Isabelle Yasmina Adjani ( fr. Isabelle Yasmina Adjani ; born June 27, 1955 , 17th arrondissement of Paris , France ) is a French actress and singer . Winner of a record 5 awards " Cesar " in the nomination "Best Actress", for roles in the films: " Obsessed " (1981), " Murderous Summer " (1983), " Camilla Claudel " (1988), " Queen Margot " (1994) and The Last Lesson (2008).

Biography and career

Isabelle is the daughter of an Algerian emigrant [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] Mohammed Sheriff Adjani and German Augusta, was born in the 17th arrondissement of Paris [10] . From the age of 12 she played in an amateur theater, starred in small roles. At the age of 15, during her school holidays, she starred in her first film, The Little Coal Miner . In 1971, Nina Kompaneyets invited Isabelle to the picture " Faustin and a beautiful summer ."

In 1972-1974, Ajani worked under contract with director Robert Hossein at the Reims People's Theater in the play Federico Garcia Lorca's "The House of Bernarda Alba ." After this, Ajani received an invitation from the Comedy Frances Theater. She played in the performances of “School of Wives” and “Ondine,” and she was asked to sign a 20-year contract. In 1974, Adjani played in the movie Claude Pinoto “ Slap ”.

Adjani left the theater to participate in the filming of Francois Truffaut 's painting “ The History of Adele G. ”, which brought her international fame. For the role of the daughter of Victor Hugo , who went crazy with unhappy love, she was nominated for the Oscar and Cesar [10] . In 1976, Andre Teschine's “ Baroque ” and Roman Polanski's “ Resident ” tapes appeared on the screen.

In 1979, Adjani played with Klaus Kinsky in the film adaptation of Bram Stoker 's work “ Nosferatu - the ghost of the night ” directed by Werner Herzog . In the same year, she played the role of writer Emily Bronte in another film by Andre Teschine “ The Bronte Sisters ”.

In 1981, Adjani played in the films “ Obsessed ” by Andrzej Zhulawski and the “ Quartet ” by James Ivory . For her roles in them, she received the 34th Cannes Film Festival award as the best actress, and for “Obsessed” she won the first Cesar Award in her career.

In 1983, Adjani received the second "Cesar" for her role in the erotic drama " Murderous Summer " by Jean Becker based on the novel by Sebastien Japrizo . The following year, she recorded a music album, music for which was written by Serge Gainsbourg , and aspiring director Luc Besson shot a video for one of the songs. Besson suggested Adjani to play in his film "The Underground " (1985).

In 1988, the film Camilla Claudel (with Gerard Depardieu ) was released, where Adjani was also a producer. The film received four Cesar awards, including for Best Actress. The fourth "Cesar" Adjani received for participation in the film adaptation of the novel by Alexander Dumas " Queen Margot " Patrice Chereau . In 1997, Adjani led the jury of the 50th Cannes Film Festival .

In 2008, she performed the film role of Margarita in the photo project “Master and Margarita” by the photographer Jean-Daniel Lorie (exhibition of photo illustrations for Mikhail Bulgakov ’s novel “The Master and Margarita ”). The exhibition was held in Paris and in Moscow . [11] [12]

At the end of February 2010, Isabelle Adjani was awarded the record fifth Cesar Award for Best Actress in a film by Jean-Paul Lilienfeld's “ Last Lesson ”. On February 19, 2010, as part of the Berlin International Film Festival , the film “Mammoth” was presented with her participation (dir. Gustave de Cairvain and Benoit Delepin). In addition to Adjani, one of the main roles in the film is also played by Gerard Depardieu. This is their fourth joint work in the cinema along with the films “Baroque”, “Camilla Claudel”, “Bon Voyage!”.

In May 2018, at the Cannes Film Festival , the premiere of the crime comedy directed by Romain Gavras “The World Belongs to You ”, in which Isabelle Adjani played with Vincent Cassel, took place . Isabelle played the role of the mother of the protagonist - a glamorous swindler who skillfully manipulates people and is passionate about gambling. According to the director of the picture, Romain Gavras, no one approached this role like Adjani. [13]

Personal life

In 1980, the actress had a son, Barnabe, from the director and cameraman Bruno Nuitten [14] .

In 1995, Adjani had a son, Gabriel-Kane Day-Lewis, from the British actor Daniel Day-Lewis , with whom she lived in London for five years.

In 2002, Adjani was going to marry the composer Jean-Michel Jarre , but the marriage did not take place, according to the actress, because of the treason of Jarre.
