History
Lach is a famous pilgrimage center of the country. Every year before the outbreak of World War II, thousands of people visited a monastery near the city, named after St. Anthony of Padua. After the ban was lifted by the Communists of religion, again many Catholics and even Muslims gather on June 12 at pilgrimage sites.
By 1950, Lach was a small village. Only with the advent of some plants (fertilizer, copper processing, glass manufacturing) did it become an industrial city. In 1967, the Communists also built a large phosphate plant, which was the employer of many residents, north of the city. At present, most of the factories are closed, a significant part of the population is unemployed.
