Shahid Balkhi

Biography

Shahid Balkhi was born in the village of Jahudanad, near the town of Balkhi (present-day Afghanistan). He was a court poet under Nasir the Second of the Samanids [1] . He also wrote works on philosophy [2] . Shahid Balkhi was a student of the famous Persian poet and scholar Rudaki . He was a contemporary of the Muslim scholar Abu Zayd Ahmed Ibn Sahl al-Balkhi , with whom he had connections. Shahid Balkhi had good relations and correspondence with the Persian philosopher Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Zakariya al-Razi [3] . Balkhi died in the year 936 [1] .
