Club career
Early career
Born on January 19, 1984 in the city of Shkodra. Pupil of the football school of the shkodera club " Vlazniya " He began his professional football career in 2002 as part of the same club, in which he spent three seasons, taking part in 55 championship matches.
In 2005, he went to Greece , however, having spent only six games for the local Panionios , he returned to his homeland in the same year, becoming a player in Tirana . Immediately became the leader of the attacks of the capital's team and in the first season spent in its composition, won the title of top scorer of the Albanian championship, marking 29 goals in 35 games. In the ranking of the top scorers of the top divisions of the world IFFHS, he took eighth place [3] . He won the Albanian Cup with Tirana, became the country's champion and two-time winner of the Albanian Super Cup.
Austria
At the beginning of 2007, the productive Albanian striker was invited to join the Austrian Reed , in which Salih was one of the most productive players over the next three years. His game for this team attracted the attention of the coaching staff of the Rapid Vienna club, which he joined in January 2010. He played for the Vienna team for the next two seasons of his playing career. Most of the time spent in the Vienna Rapid was the main player of the attacking team. As part of the Vienna “Rapid” was also one of the main scorers of the team, having an average performance at the level of one goal in two championship games.
USA, China, and Israel
On February 2, 2012, he moved overseas, becoming the appointed player of the team of DC United from MLS [4] . After one year in the United States on February 3, 2013 he moved to China , where he also played for Jiangsu Science for one year. The team needed a replacement for the injured Christian Danalache [5] . February 26, he scored his first goal for the club against the South Korean champion “ Seoul ” in the framework of the AFC Champions League , his team defeated the opponent with a score of 5: 1 [6] . From the beginning of 2014 to the summer of 2015, he played in Israel , having changed two teams during this time: Hapoel Acre and Hapoel Haifa . In the last club he was one of the highest paid players in the league with a fee of $ 20 thousand per month [7] .
Skenderbeu
In the summer of 2015 he returned to his homeland, becoming a Skenderbeu player, who was looking for personnel gain for performances in European competitions. In the new club, Salih took himself the 14th number [8] . Team coach Mirel Josa said he was pleased to have signed the player, adding that “Salih will mean a lot if he stays until the end of the season. I am more than happy for this transfer ” [9] . On July 14, 2015, he made his debut for the club in the match of the second round of the Champions League qualification against the Crusaders , in that game Salihi took a double, and his team won 4-1 [10] [11] . That season, Salihi scored 35 goals in 42 matches in all competitions, improving his personal record and becoming the top scorer of the championship [12] .
In the next season, Skenderbeu could not participate in European competitions due to disqualification in connection with contractual matches [13] . In addition, the Salihi team lost the match for the Kukesi Super Cup with a score of 3: 1 [14] . In December 2016, Salihi received the Football Player of the Year Award in Albania [15] . May 20, 2017, in a decisive match with Kukesi for the championship, Salih, along with other teammates, became a member of the mass brawl with the referee [16] . The reason was an unassigned penalty. Salih himself insulted the judge and tore the red card [17] . The match was lost 2-0, and Skenderbeu did not become the champion for the first time in six years [18] . Salih, in turn, received a ten-match suspension [19] . On June 30, 2017, the football player left the club [20] .
Return to Austria
On the same day, Salihi signed a contract with the Austrian Wiener Neustadt for an unnamed amount [21] . He made his debut on July 21, having played 70 minutes in a match against Reed, his team won with a minimum score of [22] .
Salih was appointed captain of the club before the 2018/19 season [23] . On March 28, 2019, Salihi announced that the championship game against Wacker Innsbruck would be the last of his career in two days, adding that he would resign after that [24] . He entered the field in the first team and played 52 minutes, failing to prevent a home defeat with a score of 1: 2 [25] .
Team appearances
In 2002, he made his debut in the youth team of Albania, took part in two games at the youth level.
During 2004-2006 he was involved in the youth team of Albania . At the youth level he played in 12 official matches, scored one goal.
On March 22, 2006 he made his debut in official matches as part of the national team of Albania, substituting in a friendly game against Georgia . On August 23, 2007, he scored the first goal in the match with Malta , the opponent was defeated 3-0.
Gianni De Byazi regularly challenged Salih to qualifying matches for the 2016 European Championship [26] . However, he played only one match against Armenia (victory 2: 1) [27] . He did not qualify for the Euro [28] [29] , which forced him to leave the national team [30] . As a result, Salih spent 50 matches in the form of the national team, scoring 11 goals.
