The name was given due to the Rautatientori (Railway) square, which in turn comes from the Helsinki railway station located on it.

It has a single exit equipped with 4 escalators and 2 elevators, which leads to the Asematunneli underground shopping center and through it to Helsinki Central Station . This is the only station whose name is announced not only in Finnish and Swedish , but also in English (Central Railway Station - “Central Railway Station ” and not “Railway Square”).

The busiest metro station in Helsinki: 28,510 people use it on a weekday (2005).

One of the three stations of the Helsinki Metro, which are located throughout only 1 kilometer. So, the distance from Rautatientori station to Kaisaniemi station is 597 m, to Kamppi station it is even smaller - only 487 m.
