Epic music (variant: heroic music) is a genre of modern classical music based on a wide range of genres. Initially, epic music was created for movie and computer game trailers, then musical groups appeared, creating music for the general public.
History
The first companies producing music for trailers , which later became producers of epic music, were created in the 1990s, and the American Immediate Music was one of the first since 1993. From then until 2010, many albums and singles were created; however, they were only available to clients of companies and the film industry. So far, only a few of these albums have been officially or unofficially released via the Internet platforms to the public. In 2005–2010, some composers first became known for their songs, which were presented at special events such as the Olympic Games and many trailers [1] .
The trailer music genre was called epic [2] , when composers finally began to release public albums. The first company to release an album of epic music was Globus (Epicon), followed by Trailerhead from Immediate Music in 2008 and Nu Epiq [3] . Fans' requests inspired Two Steps from Hell to publish Invincible's first public album in 2010 [4] . The publication of epic music for the mass listener, which was previously called music for trailers and films, showed that there is a demand for it. With the release of albums targeted at the mass listener [5] , the audience of fans of epic music continues to grow [6] .
Current position
Epic music is also similar to neoclassical music . Unlike trailer music, epic music is an independent genre of music that can be used also in trailers [7] . Although fans of epic music associate the genre with trailer music and film music because of the similarity of sound, they are divided into three separate types [8] . A characteristic feature of the genre is the fact that individual music videos are not filmed for epic music, or concerts are not given [9] .
