Yannis Yortsos ( Greek: Γιάννης Γιώρτσος , Eng. Yannis C. Biography

In 1968 he graduated from Veneteklio high school in Rhodes [15] .

He graduated from the Athens National Technical University with a bachelor of science degree (1973) and the California Institute of Technology with a master's degree (1974) and a PhD (1979). All degrees in chemical technology [8] .

In 1979–1990 - Assistant Professor (1979–1984), Associate Professor (1984–1990) and Professor (since 1990) of the University of Southern California.

Visiting professor at Stanford University , Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, (1986), University Paris-South XI (1997, 1999, 2001), University Pierre and Marie Curie (1990, 1997, 1999), Department of Chemical Technology, California Technological Institute (2001), as well as an associate researcher at the National Center for Scientific Research .

In 1991-1997, he was Head of the Department of Chemical Technology at the Viterbi School of Engineering at the University of Southern California [16] .

In 2001–2005, he was Deputy (2001–2003) and Senior Deputy (2003–2005) Dean of the Viterbi School of Engineering for Academic Affairs [8] .

In the past, he was the executive editor of the Society of Petroleum Engineers Journal (SPEJ), as well as a member of the editorial boards of various publications, including Transport in Porous Media, Multiscale Modeling and Simulation of the (SIAM) , SPEJ and the American Mathematical Society .

A member of advisory boards of a number of educational institutions around the world, including the School of Informatics and Technology at Tsinghua University (China) [17] , and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Greek Embassy in the United States.

Author of more than 145 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals [18] .

Awards and honors

  • 1968-1973 - scholarship from the government of Greece in obtaining basic higher education;
  • 1981 - ARCO Oil and Gas Outstanding Jr. Faculty Award;
  • 1985 - Rossiter W. Raymond Memorial Prize from the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Industries (AIME) [19] ;
  • 2000 - Distinguished Teacher Award from the Orange County Engineering Council;
  • 2008 - the Western North America Reservoir Description and Dynamics Award from the Society of Petroleum Engineers [20] ;
  • 2009 - Honorary Doctor of the International University of Nature, Society and Man "Dubna";
  • Gold medal named after P. L. Kapitsa from the Russian Academy of Sciences [21] ;
