Biography

Erich Musfeldt was born on February 18, 1913 in Neubruck. He was a baker by profession. In 1933, his candidacy was approved for entry by assault troops . He served in one of the units of the " Dead Head ". In 1939, he joined the Nazi party.

Until 1940, Musfeld served in the Auschwitz I concentration camp, and after that he was transferred to the Majdanek concentration camp , where he remained until November 15, 1941. After Majdanek was closed, he was responsible for the final execution of the remaining prisoners. Further witnesses claimed that he had organized the so-called “ Harvest Festival ”, in which 17 thousand prisoners were eliminated [2] [3] .

In June 1942, he was again sent to Auschwitz. In the new place, he was appointed commander of the Sonderkommando of the camp in Crematoria II and III in Auschwitz II (Birkenau) , where Otto Moll and Hans Omeyer also served .

Despite the fact that Musfeldt was distinguished by racial intolerance, he made close friends in the camp with the Hungarian Jew Miklos Nisli , who was a doctor and a member of the camp’s Sonderkommand, and performed experiments and autopsies at the request of Dr. Josef Mengele . Nisli in his memoirs described the activities of Musfeld. In one of the episodes, the latter, after having personally executed eighty prisoners by a shot in the back of his head, came to Miklosh with a complaint about his state of health. The doctor replied that his blood pressure was very high, and indicated that this was probably due to the recent execution. However, Musfeldt fiercely replied that killing eighty people was tantamount to killing one, and that high blood pressure was most likely associated with the high blood alcohol he consumed daily.

He was married, a son was born in marriage. The fate of his wife is unknown, the child died during one of the bombing of German cities by Allied aircraft.

After the end of World War II, Erich Müssfeldt was arrested and sent to Krakow, where the Polish Supreme Court was located. The trial, which lasted from November 25 to December 16, 1947, established his guilt, which was confirmed by the testimony of witnesses. They noted a particular sadism in his actions and pointed to cases when Musfeldt drowned prisoners alive in the sewers.

On December 22, 1947, the court sentenced him to death. On January 28, 1948, Erich Müssfeldt was hanged at the Montelupih Prison in Krakow [3] [4] .
