Wet Island

The very first mention of the village of Wet Island in the archival chronicles dates back to 1495. In this document, it is listed as Wet Wreck. As the inhabitants of the village itself have long believed, the name comes from the fact that it is surrounded by swamps and a lake.

The village of Wet Island belonged to the Church of the Forty Martyrs from Yaneva Street of Novgorod. Three families lived in the village - the Terekhovs, the Timokhins, the Loginkovs. The rent from the church village in favor of the Grand Duke was not taken. The same church belonged to the village of Goreloye, Lutovna, Moshna, Podol ^[2] .

The parish united 11 villages (Lutovna, Dubrovka, Tupichino, Listovichi, Elm, Chaszdnya, Bykovka, Sherebut and others). The church had its own choir, in which many locals sang. It has long been revered holy prophet Elijah. On Ilyin's day, residents of other villages gathered on Wet Island. The church held a service, and on the second day of the procession. When the church operated parochial school, which was located in the house next door. It had four classes. First, the local priest taught literacy, then the teacher appeared. We went to school for one year, who were two, some finished four classes. After the October Revolution of 1917, the church was closed, and it was used for a long time as a warehouse where mineral fertilizers were stored, as well as a club.
