He was a legate of the VII Claudius Legion , one of the three Roman legions in the province of Moesia under the command of Mark Apony Saturnin. Together with other commanders, he received an award from Oton for his victory over the Roxolans . Shortly afterwards, Saturninus, due to an old quarrel, attempted to assassinate Tettius and was forced to flee. As a legate, he was replaced by the commander of one of the cohorts of the legion. Tettius Julian did not take an active part in the events of the Year of the Four Emperors , but after the victory of Vespasian was appointed one of the praetors. However, the Senate did not approve this appointment because of its desertion from the Legion, and in January 70 this post was received by Decimus Plotius Gripp . After some time, when the circumstances of this story became known, Tetti Julian nevertheless became a praetor, but Gripp also retained this position.
From 80 to 82, Tetti Julian commanded the III August Legion in Numidia and actually ruled this province. In 83, he was appointed consul-suffect. From 88 to 90 he was the governor of the province of Upper Moesia and during the war with the Dacians after the death of Cornelius Fuska led the Roman army in the territory of Dacia. This time the Romans managed to defeat the Dacians and conclude a peace treaty with them.
