History
It was founded in 1936 by the merger of the nationalized [1] . factories of firms Potez ( Meolt , Picardy ), CAMS ( Sartruville ), ANF ( Le Muro , Amiot / SECM ( Codbeck-en-Co ) and Breguet ( Le Havre ). [2]
In the pre-war period, SNCAN continued to produce aircraft previously manufactured at these plants under its original names. Of the new developments, only the Potez 630 managed to reach the stage of mass production. [3]
After the fall of France , the company's facilities were in the occupied zone , work was stopped, and only in 1944 it was possible to start licensed production of Me 108 ; after the war, the release of his modifications continued under the Nord Pingouin brand.
During this period, SNCAN developed several aircraft projects that were already produced under the Nord brand; the most successful of them was the transport Nord Noratlas , the main transport of the French Air Force of that period. However, many interesting designs have remained prototypes, such as the Noreclair bomber, or the Norelic helicopter.
After the dissolution of the SNCAC group in 1949, part of its assets went to SNCAN; however, five years later, a similar fate awaited her: on October 1, 1954 she was merged with SFECMAS (formerly Air Arsenal ), in January 1958 the association was called Nord Aviation.
It lasted until 1970, when after another merger, this time with Sud Aviation , Aérospatiale (now EADS ), the main French aircraft manufacturer, was formed.
