Frederick Andermann ( eng. Frederick Andermann ) ( September 26, 1930 , Chernivtsi , Kingdom of Romania - June 16, 2019 [2] ) is a Canadian neurologist and epileptologist who has become famous for his studies of epilepsy . Together with his wife, neurologist Eva Andermann (nee Deutsch), he first described the Andermann syndrome .

Born September 26, 1930 in the city of Chernivtsi in a Jewish family [3] . After the annexation of Northern Bukovina to the USSR in 1940 with his parents, Adolf (1889–1956) and Anna Andermann (1896–1973), he fled to his father’s homeland in Suceava [4] , and from there to Bucharest [5] . During the Second World War, his mother headed an orphanage for orphaned Jewish children from the Transnistrian ghetto [6] . After the war, the family left Romania and for some time lived in Paris and Vienna .
In 1950 he emigrated to Canada, to the city of Montreal . He is a professor in the Department of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Pediatrics at McGill University . In 2003, the Government of Quebec was awarded the Wilder-Penfield Prize. In 2006, he became an officer of the Order of Canada . He was fluent in Yiddish , German , Romanian and French [7] .
His wife Eva (born 1939, Przemysl ) with her parents survived the German occupation, first in Mill , then in Babinets , where they were sheltered by a Ukrainian family [8] .
