History
The canton was formed as a result of the 2015 reform [1] .
Canton Composition since March 22, 2015
The canton consists of communes (population according to the National Statistics Institute for 2014 ):

- Wirandville (796 people)
- Kuvil (1,089 people)
- Martenvaste (1,238 people)
- Nuenville (487 people)
- Saint-Martin-le-Greart (490 people)
- Sidwil (621 people)
- Terteville-Ag (1,005 pers.)

- Cherbourg-en-Cotent (8,613 people, south-western districts)
Policy
In the 2017 presidential election, residents of the canton gave Emmanuel Macron 28.2% of the votes in the 1st round against 20.8% from Jean-Luc Melenchon , 18.2% from Marine Le Pen and 15.1% from Francois Fillon ; in the 2nd round, the canton was defeated by Macron, who received 70.3% of the vote. (2012 Round 1: Francois Hollande - 32.1%, Nicolas Sarkozy - 23.8%, Marine Le Pen - 14.6%; Round 2: Hollande - 57.7%).
Since 2015, the canton in the Council of the Manche Department is represented by a member of the council of the city of Cherbourg-en- Cottenten, Franck Tison and vice-mayor of the commune of Kuvil Marie-Odile Féret (both are the Socialist Party ).
