Strategic thinking is a mental or thought process applied by an individual in the context of achieving success in a game or other activity.
When used in the organization of strategic management , strategic thinking involves the creation and application of unique business ideas and opportunities designed to create competitive advantages for the firm or organization. [1] This can be done individually , as well as jointly by key employees who may positively influence the firm in the future. Group strategic thinking can create greater added value by allowing proactive and creative dialogue , in which people are aware of the views of others on important and complex issues. This is considered an advantage in a highly competitive and rapidly changing business environment.
General Information
Strategic thinking involves finding and developing strategic forecasting opportunities for an organization , by examining all possible future scenarios and traditional thinking, to stimulate decision making . The key questions of strategic thinking are “Why?” Or “How?”. The works of Henry Mintzberg and other authors support this inference, and also draw a clear line between strategic thinking and strategic planning .
General Andre Bofre wrote in 1963 that strategic thinking is "a thought process, both abstract and rational, which uses both psychological and material data. A strategy must have great potential for both analysis and synthesis; analysis is necessary in order to collect the data on the basis of which he draws his conclusions, and the synthesis - to derive a ready-made solution from these data, and the decision essentially comes down to the choice between the options for action. " [2]
There is no generally accepted definition of strategic thinking, there is no general agreement on its role and significance, as well as a standardized list of key competencies of strategic thinkers. Most researchers agree that traditional strategies, which are based primarily on strategic planning, do not work.
