Under the military regime, Seini Kunch in 1983 headed the national television, and in 1985 the apparatus of the Cabinet of Ministers. In 1988, Ali Saibu was appointed Minister of Information as the new President. After the country's transition to a multi-party system, in 1991 he was elected secretary-general of the ruling party, the National Movement for Social Development, which, after the defeat in the 1993 elections , went to the opposition, but following the results of the 1995 early parliamentary elections, which won by the People’s Democratic Party, formed President Mahaman Usman is a coalition with formerly supporting the President of the Niger Party for Democracy and Socialism, Mahamad Issufu . Despite the resistance of Usman, who proposed the candidacy of another MPOR member, Amadou Cisse , was approved by the head of government with the support of the parliamentary majority, which provoked a protracted conflict between Amadu and Usman, who refused to attend government meetings, which was interrupted a year later by a military coup that removed him from power both of them.

The new president, Ibrahim Mainassara , in which Amad was charged with preparing a coup d'etat that failed to be brought to trial in 1998 , was overthrown and killed in 1999 during another coup . The head of the People’s Democratic People’s Party, Tanja Mamadou , won the next presidential election, and the party took first place in terms of the number of seats in parliament and formed a coalition with supporters of Usman, which allowed Amad (who headed the People’s Democratic People’s Democratic Party instead of Mamad) to become prime minister. In 2007, after allegations of corruption, he was removed as a result of a vote of no confidence and replaced by Seyni Umaru , to whom the post of chairman of the People’s Democratic Social Democratic Party was also transferred. In 2008, Amadou was arrested, but the next year he fled to France , where he received permission to leave for treatment. After Mamadou was overthrown in the next coup in 2010 , Amadou returned to his homeland and created a new party, the Niger Democratic Movement, from which he ran for president in 2011 , but took third place and supported the victorious Issoufu, after which was elected chairman of the National Assembly. In 2013, he announced his transition to the opposition, and in 2014, on charges of smuggling child slaves from Nigeria, he was removed from his post and fled to Burkina Faso . In 2015, he returned to participate in the next presidential election, but was arrested directly at Niamey Airport upon arrival. While under arrest, he was nevertheless allowed to participate in the 2016 elections, in which he took second place with 18% of the vote and entered the second round with incumbent President Usman, but entered into a coalition with third-place Umar, calling for a boycott of the elections, which made a predetermined victory for Usman. He was soon released for treatment in France and emigrated again. In 2017 , he was sentenced in absentia in Niger to a year in prison.
