André Hubert Dumont (1809-1857) is a Belgian geologist [4] . For the first time, he identified the Tournaisian and Visean longlines of the Lower Carboniferous , the Iprian tier of Paleogene .

Biography
Born in Liege . In 1832 his first work was published on the geology of the province of Liege. The work provides descriptions of overturned folds [5] .
A few years later he became a professor of mineralogy and geology, and then the rector of the University of Liege . Further he studied the mineralogical and stratigraphic description of the geological formations of Belgium. Made geological maps of Belgium and Europe.
In 1840, the Geological Society of London awarded him the Wollaston medal .
He died in Liege.
Memory
In front of the main building of the University of Liege a monument to Andre Dumont is installed. Dumont mineral is named after Dumont [6] .
