Saint Chromatius was born and raised supposedly in Aquileia . He lost his father early and was raised by his mother and numerous brothers and sisters.
After the death of Valerian, bishop of the city, St. Chromatius became a priest in about 387 or 388 . He was one of the most famous prelates of the time and was in active correspondence with his contemporaries: Saint Ambrose of Mediolansky , Blessed Jerome Stridonsky , writer Rufin of Aquileia .
