Children of Sarajevo ( born Children of Sarajevo ; Bosnian Djeca ) is a Bosnian dramatic film directed by Aida Begic. The premiere took place at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012 [1] .

Story

Brother and sister Rahima and Nedim lost their parents during the Bosnian war . 10 years later, they live in Sarajevo, 23-year-old Rahima converts to Islam and works as a waitress, and her 14-year-old son Nedim becomes a petty criminal. Soon their life is sharply complicated when Nedim gets into a fight with the son of a local criminal authority [2] .

Awards and nominations

The film was nominated at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012 as part of the Special Look Program ( French Un Certain Regard ) [3] [4] , where it received the Special Jury Mention prize [5] . Also, the Children of Sarajevo were nominated for an Oscar in the category " Best Foreign Language Film " from Bosnia and Herzegovina, however, did not enter the final list of applicants [6] .
