Since the beginning of the 17th century, the area of the current Money Lane has been built up with one-story city estates . After the fire of 1812 , active construction began on the site of burnt buildings. The City Commission released albums of exemplary building designs with clear rules for facade architecture. Wooden houses were allowed to be built no higher than one floor - hence the fashion for mezzanines and mezzanines [4] . In 1839, a small Empire-style mansion was built on the site of the Gutheil mansion. The building was wooden, but installed on a brick foundation [5] [6] .

In 1887, the building was rebuilt under the direction of architect Vladimir Petrovich Gavrilov. An old Art Nouveau stone house with elements of classicism was built on the old foundation. A mezzanine with a decorative balcony was located above the main entrance [5] . At first, the mansion belonged to the merchant N.K. Bol, in 1892 the building was purchased by Karl Aleksandrovich Gutheil . He owned the largest music and music publishing house in pre-revolutionary Russia and was the first to propose the release of the opera Aleko by Sergei Rachmaninov . The composer was friends with Gutheil and often was at his house in Money Lane [7] [5] [6] .

After the revolution, the mansion was nationalized . The building housed the New Moscow organization, and later communal apartments . In the late 1980s, the building was transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the RSFSR , then the first repair was carried out [5] . By 2009, the building was dilapidated and was in disrepair [8] .

In 2016-2017, a full restoration of the building was carried out . During the work, the roof was repaired, the facades and interior decoration were restored, electricity was supplied and a modern ventilation system was installed [5] . The restoration was carried out at the expense of investors - after the repair was completed, the clinic of aesthetic medicine was opened in the building [9] [10] .
